The odds of Harris beating Trump have continued to slip in October, with the Republican Party’s candidate now leading at most online political sportsbooks.
The GOP had been way out in front when President Biden was running for reflection, but after Kamala Harris’s introduction, the race has become competitive.
The Democratic Party’s high point was the weeks following the September 10th debate, but Trump has now pulled ahead once again at the most critical point in the election cycle.
Can Trump’s lead hold, or will Harris and her campaign gain some traction over the next 27 days?
Why Trump Will Win
The support for Donald Trump during the 2020 election garnered more votes than any other GOP candidate in the history of US politics. Even if Trump comes up just shy of the 70 million-plus ballots cast in his favor last time, that still presents more than enough of a challenge for Harris.
Donald may be behind in the polls, but the betting odds at online sports gambling sites give him an edge. There aren’t any further scheduled events before election day, so he could eke out a win by just remaining quiet.
Of course, Trump isn’t known for being shy, and several more campaign events are scheduled for the coming days.
Why Harris Will Win
Harris is currently polling ahead of Trump by a margin of 3% nationally. What is at question is how that will break down on a state-by-state basis and whether it will equal 270 or more Electoral College votes.
Her popularity does not match the pre-election hype surrounding Biden in 2020, but she has far surpassed any potential he had for 2024.
While Harris does trail in the betting odds, she’s not exactly a distant underdog. In fact, it is hard to refer to her as less-than-favored because her odds of winning are no worse than even. There are still a few books that have Harris in the lead.
Hurricane Milton’s Impact
A major hurricane will make landfall on the western shores of Florida shortly after midnight tonight. The response of both Harris and Trump will be placed under a microscope following what could be historic levels of devastation across central FL.
Hurricane Milton may be the final opportunity for both candidates to show American voters what they are made of. The storm should exit the Sunshine State at some point early tomorrow afternoon.
